Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading cause of death among children under 10 years of age in the United States. Autopsies reveal 85% of SIDS victims had a misalignment or subluxation in the very first vertebra in the neck area. This area of the spinal cord controls respiration.
Researchers think the misalignment may actually choke or compress the cord at the C1 level causing lack of oxygen or hypoxemia and death. A simple x-ray analysis can detect even the smallest misalignment in these helpless victims. Board certified Atlas Orthogonist Doctors have created StopSids.org, a research project involving this specific cause. If you have more questions about this frightening battle, call Dr. Stotts’ office.
Traumatic Birth Syndrome
When your baby is born, your main concern is the overall general health of your newborn wonder. You may have been told that all babies scream and cry. You may think that manually pulling a newborn from the birth canal is normal.
Birth does not have to be that way! Pulling on a newborn’s neck during the birthing process can cause serious and even fatal injuries. While the bones of a newborn are pliable, they are not soft. They are bones just like the ones you have, only smaller.
The most common incident is the use of forceps or vacuums on the babies skull to speed up a delivery. The forceps or vacuum squeeze the cranium, causing bruising or hematomas on the skull bones or brain tissue. The forceps or vacuum usually turn the babies neck to one side and pull the baby out. This is the scary part. That can actually sever the spinal cord from the brain, creating a fatal outcome. If the baby survives a so-called “simple procedure”, a misalgnment of the first neck or cervical verebra is likely. A simple Atlas Orthogonal and/or Pro Adjuster exam is the way to go. Call Dr. Stotts if you have any concerns.
